Artist Resume
Kinga Földi’s art emerges at the intersection of tradition and innovation, where the tactile poetry of silk becomes a vessel for storytelling. As a Hungary-based textile artist, Kinga’s mastery of the pin-tucking technique, a meticulous and rhythmic process allows her to shape shantung silk into intricate forms that resonate with the natural world’s rhythms. Her works, spanning sculptures, installations, and jewellery, transcend the boundaries of materiality, inviting viewers into a dialogue where texture, memory, and emotion intertwine.
Graduating from the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design in 2006 as a woven textile designer, Kinga’s journey has been one of perpetual exploration. Her early experience as a costume designer refined her ability to marry functionality with artistry, a sensibility she now channels into her sculptures. Drawing inspiration from traditional handcraft techniques, Kinga preserves their cultural resonance while reimagining them through a contemporary lens. Each creation becomes a bridge between the past and the present, connecting threads of heritage to modern expression.
Exhibiting widely across Europe and Asia, Kinga’s work has found a home in the collections of architects, collectors, and institutions, a testament to its enduring appeal. Beyond her practice, she shares her knowledge as a lecturer at the University of Pécs and through masterclasses across Europe, fostering a new generation of textile artists.
In Kinga’s hands, silk transforms into a medium of connection, where the folds and layers of her creations evoke not just natural forms but also the intricacies of human emotion. As Gaston Bachelard wrote in The Poetics of Space, “Material imagination… seeks to bring a new dimension to the poetic image.” Kinga’s art achieves precisely this, rendering the ephemeral tangible and inviting us to rediscover the beauty in texture, memory, and form.
